No refrigeration necessary. Shelf life: 2-20 years depending on storage conditions.

Maca is a tuber (root) grows at very high elevation: 11,500 - 14,500 feet above sea level. It is found only in the Andean mountains. It is the marque name in a host of so-called Andean superfoods, which also include the highly-nutritious cereal grain quinua, the grain kiwicha and the spinach-family plant kañihua.

It has been widely repoted that NASA astronauts have been given Andean super-food concentrates to accompany them on their journeys into outer space. A McGill researcher was recently awarded a $500,000 grant to study the potential for quinua use for deep space voyages. Like maca, quinua grows in harsh conditions which are about the closest one can get to outer space on planet earth. In fact, due to the oblong spheroid shape of our home planet, Ecuador's Mount Chimborazo is the farthest terrestrial point from the center of the earth. It is believed that both maca and quinua (which has shown resistence to ultraviolet radiation, for example) are ideally suited for the rigors of deep space flight. As for bee pollen, this emerges from nutritional testing as arguably the most nutritious off all foods based on the high quality, range and bioavailability of bee pollen's many amino acids, vitamins and minerals. Some allergic reactions do occasionally occur with bee pollen, however.

The Inca Natural Story: Inca natural was started by two Americans who live in Ecuador, Brian McClain (www.ecuanow.com) and Stan Grist (www.stangrist.com). We wanted to develop the perfect food to take with us on our Adventure Expeditons. It had to be lightweight, highly nutritious and able to withstand harsh conditions and climatic extremes. We found the perfect answer close at hand--maca: the Superfood of the Andes, prized by the Incas and consumed by their warriors during their arduous, high-altitude military campaigns. Soon we began blending other great Incan superfoods, all of which are grown by our friends' farms high in the Andes.
